The large fortified settlement of Los Villares, in El Estrecho de las Cuevas de La Encarnacion, will take you back in time to Caravaca de la Cruz in the period when the Iberian civilisation controlled an important trade route between south-east Spain and Andalusia. Caravaca also has important Roman archaeological remains, which are considered to be the oldest in the Iberian Peninsula and can be viewed in the city's archaeological museum.
